TORTURE

Opinion, opinion, opinion, opinion, opinion. Most of what you see, hear and listen to these days across social media, internet and news channels is opinion.  Today’s taste makers, influencers, opinion masters, politicians and other media whores are fickle creatures.  One day they might say that they are antiestablishment, anti corporate, anti religion and the next day they’ll be endorsing D Trump, speaking on Fox News, attending MAGA rallies, and getting baptized in the Thames, think Russel Brand. Today’s world is full of men constantly sharing their opinions, what they think of the world and how they think the world should be.

Torture is a strong word, but if I wanted to torture people or at least if I allowed someone to get inside my head and come up with a program to torture me, I would lock me in a room with many TVs each playing continuous loops of various male podcasters, YouTubers, politicians, corporate capitalists, speaking 24 hours a day.  A prison of TVs in a room that you can’t escape all playing Podcasts and lectures from some of the top male YouTubers.

Torture would be having to listen to all these men go on and on and on and on and on and on and on, and on, and on, and on and on without the ability to turn any of them off.  Torture would be having Jordan Peterson, Russel Brand, nepo-babies Donald Trump and RFK Jr, Joe Rogan, the diary of a CEO, Bill Maher and numerous others I can’t think of right now, speaking continuously with no escape.

Did you try and watch the interview that Bill Maher did on his podcast with Woody Allen? It was completely unwatchable.  Even people like the great comic actor Stephen Fry have become somewhat irrelevant. Trying to watch him and John Cleese talk on GB News was painful. Stephen Fry has done some great work in his life, but it seems that at some point we all just have to shut the F up.  How much more do you have to say?

Torture is a horrible thing. I never wanna be tortured and yet it seems that in today’s world people are choosing torture. I mean how can people listen to Joe Rogan for three hours in one sitting?  Are they taking some kind of drug?  Jordan Peterson is another one that may have once seemed interesting when he was lecturing students in a classroom but now seems ridiculous. The man who has an answer for any question you ask him, he is in one sense a modern bishop, an arch deacon, a priest, a man connected to God and so therefore knows everything.

The great movie the Fisher King starring Robin Williams and made by Terry Gillingham kind of sums up the modern YouTuber.  In that film a radio disc Jockey, who at the time was sort of like a Howard Stern, takes calls on the air and says outlandish things to the callers.  On one of these calls, Jeff Bridges character, encourages a shooter, who then kills Robin Williams character’s wife, in a restaurant.  Bridges character is obsessed with fame and fortune and consequently doesn’t realize the influence he has over people. In the movie he has a big fall from grace and even after realising his mistakes he ends up in the same place again.  Today’s Youtubers have no fall from grace they just move from one opinion to another, nothing touches them.

You don’t have to imagine torture anymore you can torture yourself, just spend a few hours listening to one of the endless men in the Manosphere, sharing their opinion.  The problem it seems is that the algorithm, the advertisers, the politicians have got a hold of this and they’re promoting the most inane kind of people.  The influencer is at its core just another salesman for the corporate capitalist, the colonial exploiter.  What do they want to influence you to do? Duh, to support them and sell you on themselves, products and advertisers.

Humans have a talent for talking.  There’s no shortage of people saying stuff, and maybe that’s the thing about America, supposedly you have the freedom of speech, especially if you’re a white male Nepo baby.  I’m not trying to be a dictator and cancel all these people from talking, but from my end, torture would be having no choice but to listen to them and it seems we are heading this way.  In today’s world, the people we have to mostly listen to seem to be white men of a certain financial status, supported by algorithms that promote those very type of people, or news channels that have but a few people in their stable of discussion, think Trumps mouthpiece Fox News.

The human voice is a tool and it can be used in many ways. Right now much of what’s happening on the Internet and on the news channels is a misuse of one of our fundamental tools. What are we actually talking about most of the time? There are way more important things to do than listening to men sit around talking about how great they are and how much they know and how great their opinion is.  Maybe I’m doing the same thing right now, expressing my opinion about what I think is right and what I think is wrong.  What I hope is that if someone came to talk to me, I would be able to offer them information that would help them in their lives.

Sometimes in the morning when I’m watering my garden, the birds are twittering away. It’s quite a nice sound. There’s not much other noise going on, and the great thing is I don’t really understand what they’re saying. It’s one of the reasons I sometimes enjoy traveling to a country where I don’t speak the language because I get to move around without really having to pay attention to whats being said, of course that can be dangerous if I ever get into trouble of any kind because I won’t be able to speak about my needs.

There are so many talk shows on YouTube, everyone’s got a podcast, everyone’s talking.  It’s a thing.  You can find any actor, presenter, writer, author on a podcast or a YouTube channel.  Sometimes I think maybe I should just join the herd, instead of listening to them, they could listen to me.  People have told me, I have a nice voice and I should do some kind of podcast or radio show. I have never got around to it.  I have a hard time listening to other people, so why would people wanna listen to me moan and groan and go on about things.   That’s the nature of life though isn’t it we are often just caught up In other people’s ideas of what we should do and how we should do things.  We are caught up in this idea that these networks will benefit our lives somehow and for some it does, but the data is showing that it’s really for the same social economic people that benefit from social media and news channels. Most of the lower and middle class, economic sections of society, get little benefit from Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

At some point as a human being you have to start listening to yourself. This is hard when there’s so much noise, there’s so much distraction.  The world seems to be filled with the noise of opinion and it’s draining. It’s time-consuming. It’s mostly uneducational. You can’t live your life If you’re constantly listening to other people, at some point, you have to listen to yourself. You have to engage in your moment.

Within all this talking, all this expression. there is a lot of Hypocrisy.  It reminds me of a time I went on a date with a woman in Copenhagen, at the end of the date I told her that I had some tickets to a concert and asked If she’d like to join me, she said she would, and yet, at the time I felt like the sentiment was the opposite of the words she was using.  I messaged her later and asked if she really did want to come, because I felt like she didn’t. She wrote back and said that I was right, she had no intention of ever seeing me again, and yet she had said multiple times that she would like to hang out.

This is an experience I have had more recently, people hide behind their words.  Therefore, opinion is variable, changeable, we see that in our current crop of leaders, they have no accountability, their word means nothing.  People used to say your word mattered, can we say that any longer?  If your word is meaningless why the fuck am I listening to you?  When people’s word is meaningless, it’s opinion. Opinion is dangerous if you think it’s real, be forewarned, we are entering an era of torturous opinion, blasted on us, used against people to corrupt and control. Opinion is not life, life is like the universe, it has no opinion, it just is, and it’s bigger than anything the human mind can contemplate, define or create.
