Photography Show at The Farmer and Cook in OJAI - April 2024

My first photography show will be taking place for the month of April at my favourite cafe in the Ojai Valley ‘The Farmer and the Cook’. If you haven’t visited Steve and Olivia’s place the food is always spot on and the vibes are chill, plus the prices are very reasonable. I shop here for groceries too.

The theme of this show is WATER. All the photography relates to time spent on the planet photographing landscapes with some form of water in the shot, whether it be clouds, oceans, or beaches, etc.

These photos were taken on jaunts around the globe from Japan, to Europe, and in North America.

Photography became a tool later on in my life as a way to get into nature. Nearly every shot in this show is a long exposure. Long Exposures, seem more interesting as photos to me and taking long exposures allows the photographer to spend time looking around while the exposure is happening.

I have lots of kinds of photos but long exposures work well as prints and when it comes to printing there is a significant difference between looking at a photo on a screen and printing one, a photo can really be judged by how it looks printed.

I spent time going through thousands of photos to try and find the ones that speak to me, that work as prints, and I think some of them in this show do work. You can be the judge.

Water is my spirit animal, if I had a spirit animal and if water was an animal. Water is powerful, life giving and dangerous. The planet earth we live on is mostly water and human beings are mostly water, so it seems fitting that there should be plenty of photos of water. Water comes in the liquid form, but it also is in the clouds, the ice and reflects rainbows when it rains. Water is like a God, its all powerful and just as much as it gives life, it can take it too. Water flows, moves, and changes. Water is the food for plants, the carrier of nutrients. When you start to write about water, you could go on for pages. Water is in a sense a muse.

As I went through my photos over the last eight years I saw that most of the photos I really like had water in them, and I think you will find not a human being on this planet who doesn’t have some fascination with water.

I would like to thank Steve and Olivia at Farmer and the Cook for giving me a chance to show my art. My parents, John and Lesley for supporting me, encouraging me and helping me put the show on. It’s given me the chance to go through the creative process, a process which has once again reminded me how amazing this planet is and how lucky i am to have had the chance to travel, photograph and be alive. Although the last few years for many of us have been difficult, the planet is this wild amazing being that has so much to offer. Sitting in nature, sitting in your home, sitting anywhere on the planet can be a beautiful experience. Maybe these photos will inspire you, remind you, that like me you are human and human beings can appreciate what we have, a place where the beauty of water exists outside and inside.

If you are interested in any of the photos for yourself as prints, please contact me on this website, I can print any size and ship. Below are some of the photos in the show. Best, Jerome.
